There were a lot of hyped revolving this drama, so I decided to give this one a chance. Hmm, teenage pop idol drama, would I enjoy it? I have to admit in the midst of watching it, there have been times where I considered not finishing it, but it's not my style to never finish a kdrama. I will always finish it so I know what the ending is like, and to write my reviews here :)

Go Mi Nyu's identical twin brother Go Mi Nam was accepted in to the pop idol band A.N.JELL (angel? maybe that explains why some of the posters are of the band members dressed in angel costumes flying in the sky, a bit cheesy). However, unfortunately, he had to quickly go to the United States to fix plastic surgery on his face which went wrong. In the mean time, Min Nam's manager had to deliver since it's a very crucial period to introduce the new band member.

He thought of this wonderful idea of getting Mi Nam's identical sister Go Mi Nyu, who is training to be a nun to take his place until he gets back. Mi Nyu is against it initially but relents in the end to help his brother out and perhaps she's got a good chance of finding their mother (she doesn't find the mother in the end as she had passed away).

The band consisted of Tae Kyung, lead singer, Shin Woo, drums, Jeremy, guitar & base. Mi Nam (Mi Nyu) was the new addition to this pop idol band.

She had to cut her hair, and cross dresses as a guy. Jeremy and Shin Woo are friendly to her but the lead singer Tae Kyung didn't like her and make things really hard for her.

The first person that discovered that she is a girl was Shin Woo during one late night drinking spree when she got really drunk. Maybe he felt something or smelt something when he was helping her? He doesn't reveal it and gradually over time falls in love with her. It's a one sided love which in the end he confesses to her. I will come to that later.

Tae Kyung continually make life hard for Mi Nyu, but over time you can see him softening. It could be out of respect that she could actually sing quite well (only seen in the drama that she could but in reality she can't really :) ). When he found out that she was a girl, he wanted to expose her. In the end he didn't and end up protecting her.

Jeremy was so happy to find out she was a girl and hung around her like a lost puppy. He too grew to like her a lot but snapped out of it rather quickly compared to Shin Woo who stubbornly loves her from the side lines.

Mi Nyu from the start to end have always like Tae Kyung, even though he was so mean to her. Why do girls always go for the bad guys huh? and especially ones that are mean to you. It was too hard for her to bear staying so close living in the same house, singing in the same band, seeing him every day. She made a decision to leave and left for Japan near the end to take a break from Tae Kyung and the band.

It's only when you lose something then you realise how much you had taken for granted or how much you actually love a person that Tae Kyung  realised his love for Mi Nyu. The final scene with A.N.JELL in concert, and Tae Kyung seeing Mi Nyu in the audience, jumps down into the audience and tells her he loves her for all the world to hear.

Scenes I love: most touching scene was when Mi Nyu was singing the song Without Saying in the studio, she was actually singing it for real to Tae Kyung. Shin Woo knew that she loved Tae Kyung and was watching from the side lines. She didn't finish the song and left near the end crying outside. Shin Woo came to comfort her. You can just feel the heartache, I really could feel her pain.

Funny scenes I found was with the shoe scene on the tv, when Mi Nyu said the lady on tv was wearing nice shoes and all the boys when what? The badminton scene when Tae Kyung kept smashing it at Mi Nyu. Hilarious.

Mi Nyu's manager is quite a funny character. Most scenes with him in it is quite funny.

Park Shin Hye's acting is so terrible. You can see her trying to act! Her character Go Mi Nyu didn't help. The character was naive and pretty thick. She doesn't get hints and didn't get with the programme most of the time.

Jeremy is sooo cute. I'm a fan of FT Island and I think he has a great voice. Fortunately, his acting wasn't too bad either. He was able to pull of the blonde hair and quirky outfits. I have to admit that Korean actors, even the young ones from kpop bands can actually act and all the supporting cast can act too compared to TVB.

Jung Yong Hwa's debut in to acting. Awesome. He did a good job and very convincing playing the guy with an unrequited love. I thought he was the best looking band member and I'm also a fan of his real band CN Blue. I felt sorry for him not getting the girl since he was a very loving, sincere, caring and patient character. Later in my review of Heart Strings, he actually gets the girl and it's played by Park Shin Hye too! He confesses his love for Mi Nyu near the end,  but Mi Nyu did not accept him as she was in love with Tae Kyung. I think it was bad timing in his case. Had Shin Woo told her earlier, she might not have been in love with Tae Kyung. We will never know. Shin Woo....the perfect guy. I don't think such a good looking and loving, patient and romantic guy exist in this world. Only in kdrama land :(

This drama was a bit too teenagerish for me but nevertheless, I enjoyed watching it. It was very entertaining. I think you have to watch a teenage drama every so often as it reminds you what it was like to be a teen once.

OST: Awesome songs here. Loved it. Still / As Ever – Lee Hong Ki; Without Saying – 9th STREET; Promise – Lee Hong Ki ft. Jung Hwa Young; My Heart’s Calling – Kim Dong Wook; Song For A Fool – Park Sang Woo; Still / As Ever – A.N.JELL; Promise – A.N.JELL.

I recommend this drama.

Rating 4.5/5
