After watching Rooftop Prince, I started this one. I wasn't expecting too much from this one, and I knew it wouldn't top Rooftop Prince either. Another time travel drama after Time Slip Dr. Jin, and Rooftop Prince. Korean trends seem to start off with an explosion, and everywhere you look, it's the same thing, then it'll die off and then something new arrives and it goes through the same phase. It's like with their hairstyles...first it was wavy curly mop on guys and then now it's the side swept bowl cuts. Not that it isn't appealing but the trends seem to happen like this to the point of saturation.

Back to the drama. Kim Boong Do is of upper class status. He is a nobleman from the Joseon Dynasty. He is very intelligent, graduated from SungkyunKwan University, came top of his class in the civil exams and currently works at the royal bureaucratic office. He supports the reinstatement of Queen Inhyun who was dethroned by the royal concubine Jang Hee Bin's evil schemes. Because he was helping Queen Inhyun to regain her position, Lady Jang and her supporters were not happy with him and given the chance wanted to get rid of him.

Boong Do was given a talisman with a spell put on it by his maid who was in love with him and didn't wish to see any harm come to her master. The talisman protects him from death should any harm come to him. Any near death experience, the talisman would transport him 300 years into the future. One day during a fight when he was about to be stabbed, he transported into modern day Seoul where filming was taking place of the drama Queen Inhyun (how incidental & convenient :) ).

Cho Hee Jin is filming as the lead, playing Queen Inhyun. She was distributing donuts to the cast when she saw Boong Do. She started a conversation with him and found him quite weird. This was the first initial meeting. They meet again later when he travels back to Seoul. They develop a friendship, and Hee Jin helps him research and read about the history of what happened during his time in the Joseon era.

Boong Do has to make sure history was put right (sounds familiar to Time Slip Dr. Jin). Hee Jin of a sweet and lovable nature fell easily for him. She tricked him in saying that when people part when saying goodbye they have to kiss passionately & hug. I thought this was very funny. Boong Do is a very intelligent man. He picks up things fast, reads a lot about the future and adapts and learn very quickly.

Boong Do and Hee Jin fell in love and developed a relationship. Boong Do had to travel back to the Joseon era often to make sure history is corrected. Any little changes would change the past completely. This happened twice in the drama. Everything would change, and it was only Boong Do and Hee Jin who remembered the other past.

The reinstatement of the real Queen Inhyun was successful. Boong Do faked his death in the Joseon time and lived his life travelling around Joseon. His talisman was burnt and gone so it seemed impossible for him to travel back to modern day seoul to be with Hee Jin. Because the talisman was burnt so were Hee Jin's memories of him. She didn't know who Boong Do was.

One evening driving to the studio to check out the voice over segments she's helping a producer with, in the car, she just started crying for no reason. It was full on heartache and agony type of cyring. It was in this very moment 300 years in time that Boong Do was committing suicide, hanging himself in a prison cell. When he's about to die, the mobile phone Hee Jin bought him starting ringing (in Joseon time!).

The final scene is with Hee Jin in the studio watching over the segments. This documentary was on the mystery disappearance of Kim Boong Do who was presumed dead & of his life works. While watching the documentary, all the memories Hee Jin had lost started flashing back. She remembered everything - the love she felt, all the times she had spent with Boong Do. Then miraculously, Boong Do dressed in a tux appears, opening the door to the studio. He had travelled (without the talisman) to modern day Seoul to be with Hee Jin because she had called him! When he was about to hang himself, the phone rang. He had then pulled the rope and let himself down :)The price he has to pay now is that he has to stay by her side forever. The scene ended with them in a tight embrace kissing passionately.

It's nice to think that a love so strong knows no boundaries; memories so strong that can flash back of something that have happened even though your past was changed. A lovely ending, unrealistic, fairytale like but nice.

Memorable scenes: when they were parted forcibly and Boong Do was able to fade travel back to Seoul. They were able to see glimpses of each other and was running towards each other when he just  faded back to Joseon time. The song they played was very effective. It was so sad.

The other scene of course was the final rain scene when she was crying with such heartache and had no understanding why. When he appeared suddenly opening the door to the studio because she had called for him. So romantic.

I enjoyed this drama. Kim Boong Do is the perfect man - tall, good looking, good at martial arts, intelligent, kind, romantic, caring & capable. It was a nice, sweet, amusing, romantic drama. The reason why this did not get a  higher rating was due to the weak acting by the leads. There was strong on-screen chemistry, but the acting wasn't strong enough for me to give it anything higher.

OST: Same Sky, Different Time by Joo Hee of 8Eight.

Rating: 3.8/5
